Excellence in Everything!
Circumstances
How pleasant it is when circumstances are delightful~
children honoring you, all in good health, house in order, bills paid. Yet it
is in difficult circumstances when the surrendered heart sees God vibrantly at
work.
Some tips for difficult times: Read Psalms (perhaps Ps. 40),
and reread sections that speak comfort to your heart.
Pray surrendering. Beg God for exactly what you want but let
Him know that you want what pleases Him.
Develop a plan for solving the problems that you have the
power to solve.
Engage support. Pray with a friend. Divide the labor. Be
willing to accept help.
Academic Excellence
As I study the Word, I am more convinced than ever that
Championship Christian Education is biblical.
Some points of championship to consider:
It is individualized. Agreeing with how God made your child,
you plan curriculums that incorporate His ability, His interests, His gifts and
what you see He needs.
It is methodical. Schedules are important. Routine is
valuable. Reward and consequences are consistent.
It is Christian. Students are not required to memorize
academic facts without first understanding the facts and seeing their
usefulness. Each academic area introduces the student to more of God’s power
and faithfulness. Bible is not just the first subject of the day but is
incorporated throughout the day. Consider what changes you will have to make in
order to go up the next step on the ladder to academic excellence.
Reading
Summer is an excellent time for reading lists – books the
reader reads alone and books that you read together on the porch swing.
Use this time to talk about what you read. Lead the
discussion in such a way that you discover what your children think about
government, law, fairness, etc. Make note of where you want to show them God’s
plan and thinking.
Attitude
Remember that there are clues in your younger child for how
he/she will think and behave as he/she gets older. Be alert to the signs and
address them now.
End of Year Evaluation
Consider:
- Did my progress flow from my goals?
- Am I continuously aware of making God better known to my
children?
- Does this desire show in my schedule?
- Do I have a plan for areas where God has especially gifted
my child?
- Art lessons
- Vocabulary drills + usage
- Publishing my excellent writing
- Leadership opportunities
- Am I addressing each child’s special needs? What plan do I
have to continue this?
- Am I concentrating more on biblical methods regardless of
what text I choose?
Feel free to discuss this at workshops or by phone.
