The Land Of Imagination

By Ellie Lewis, WCFS Student

While sitting at my school desk when I should have been diligent in my studies, I found that I was beginning to imagine myself standing at the edge of a pool in a wood. With a green ring on my right finger and a yellow ring in my left pocket, I jumped into the pool. My whole body began to tingle as I felt myself going down, down, down.

Suddenly, everything that I could imagine impossible appeared! I discovered grass that never grew tall nor died. Instead, it stayed healthy, green, and ready for the wild horses to eat.  The horses were not ordinary horses. Instead, they were able to fly, but they had no wings. Some of them could even change colors! They carried the Indians living among them for miles and never grew weary. The Indians lived in caves. They provided food for the animals. I imagined that I met an Indian girl that was my age. Her name was Gold Rain. Gold Rain and I rode up a mountain on her horse, White Coat. She took me to a special waterfall that was made of butterflies. It was so exciting to be there.

Then something wonderful happened! A herd of horses galloped past us to a nearby field. Of course I had to go to the field to see the horses, for you must know that I love horses. There I met the most beautiful horse in the herd. As I stroked her fur, I knew she was the horse for me. I now had a horse of my own! I decided to name her Coal Black for she was black as coal. Gold Rain and I decided it was about time to set up camp.  We ate rabbit stew for dinner.  Gold Rain truly was the best cook I have ever met. We slept in Gold Rain’s little teepee. It was very cozy that night.

The next day, we traveled to Gold Rain’s friend’s house. On the way, we found many wild dogs, horses, and even parrots. Finally, we reached the house. There I met Gold Rain’s friend, Green River. We walked in Green River’s beautiful garden while Gold Rain told Green River all that we had experienced.

The next day the three of us set out to the river to have a picnic. There we ate fruit chicken, vegetables, and everything I could imagine delicious.  We picked flowers there that you would never find here in our world.

Sadly, Gold Rain announced that it was time for us to leave. We packed up our things, said our goodbyes, and left. It was a very quiet journey home.  Finally, we came to a stream and Coal Black and White Coat were able to drink. As for Gold Rain and I, we plunged into the stream to cool down, for it was a very hot day.

When we reached home, Gold Rain’s mother told us to sit by the fire while we rested. The fire crackled, popped, and warmed us. We chatted until we became sleepy.  Then, we decided to go to bed.

The next morning as I was lying on the bear skin bed the Indians gave me, I knew in my mind it was about time for me to head for home. I told the tribe at breakfast that day. I then put on my yellow ring and found myself up out of that pool and in the Wood. I knew I had to do one thing before I jumped into my world’s pool. I marked the pool I had just come from, “The Land of Imagination.”

Then I jumped into my own pool and found myself looking down at my studies.
