The Young Cowboy

Continued from last month

By Anna Bohnett WCFS Senior

Part three of three.

He had struggled hard to live,

But the battle he had lost.

The other cowboys wept,

At the thought of what it had cost.

They buried The Young Cowboy

Beneath the dessert sand.

The boss, o’er come with grief,

Felt tears stream down his cheeks of tan.

For you see, The Young Cowboy,

Was the boss’s son.

The Young Cowboy

He (The boss) went on with the cattle,

They sold very well.

Then he went home,

His wife to tell.

The story does not end there,

But it is too sad to continue.

The sweetheart never married,

Her heart was too sad for a lover anew.

The Young Cowboy had a sister,

She loved him much; she died young.

I know for a fact it was heartbreack,

Though the doctors’ said it was her lung.

But, up on God’s green range

Where the dust storms never blow,

The Young cowboy is happy,

Far from the tears of below.
