The Purpose of the Workshop
The purpose of our workshop program is to provide Biblical encouragement and Christian fellowship for home schooling moms. Workshops include practical tips for home-teaching, scriptural challenges for godly family living, and opportunity for sharing and discussion about raising families and home schooling with other Christians.
Workshop Theme
| "That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children, to be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed." Titus 2:4-5 |
The overall theme of the workshops is to promote the Biblical encouragement of the older women teaching the younger. Becky Wyand will be providing the "older woman" teaching and you are invited to come as either an experienced mom or a "younger woman" participant.
Speakers
The primary workshop leader is Becky Wyand. Becky has answered the call of God to devote herself to teaching women. As an experienced educator (over 30 years), Becky provides instruction for Biblical motherhood with a refreshing challenge to Spirit-led mothering for the glory of God.
Gary Cox opens the workshops with an address on Biblical Principles for the Home.
Lunch
There are a few lunch options available at WCFS Workshops; the first being the WCFS Yearbook Club which sells hot dogs, drinks, and chips. There is often a bake sale going on as well. There are fast food restaurants within 10-15 minutes of the fairgrounds, but the travel time cuts down on the time of fellowship that lunch usually provides. You may of course bring you own lunch if you desire.
Location
WCFS holds workshops in two areas for your convenience.
The workshops in Western MD/Baltimore/Washington region are held at the Howard County Fairgrounds. For directions.
The Spring workshops for the Eastern Shore/Delmarva region will be held at the Sunnyside Alliance Church in Secretary, MD. For directions.
High School Clubs
In order for students to participate in the high school clubs - parents must be registered in the workshop program.
We usually have a Chess Club, a Drama Club, and a Yearbook Club. Other clubs, (Sports, Political Science, Rocket, etc.) can be formed with WCFS permission. An adult (parent) supervisor is required.
Child Care
Activities for your children may be provided on a very limited basis, depending upon the needs and participation of those attending.
We will provide for children in the normal WCFS fashion. That means we will encourage you to keep your children with you doing quiet handwork etc. as much as possible.
In addition this year, assistance in this will be provided through a very deliberate use of the young people present at the workshops. We believe that this is a great opportunity for young adults to show sincere gratitude to their mom by helping with younger siblings or the younger siblings of moms who only have small children. (It also will be a great opportunity for young adults to develop some of the skills of child care.) There will be a designated crew of young adults or older children who will be available for assistance when a little one needs to leave the room or have some special attention.
Please remember that the goal of these workshops is to primarily focus on encouraging moms, therefore, any activity which might be scheduled for the older children and young adults will be orchestrated so as to always provide some help for moms in need of assistance. Everyone's cheerful cooperation will make this policy a real blessing for all.
Elective Notes
Some of the high school elective courses will take place at the workshops. Other electives may be held at locations and times completely independent of the workshops.
In order for students to participate in the high school electives - parents must be registered in the workshop program.
Some elective courses held at the workshops may require additional meetings scheduled.
